Very nice. If I can be nitpicking, the orb is transparent, right? Well it would seem that the light is coming slightly from the top, slightly to the right (her left), which would mean some of the light would pass through the orb and onto her hand, causing an effect called caustics. In this case it would cause a patch of bright light in the centre and fade out slightly with a brighter ring around it. But hey, as I said, its nitpicking. As to the darkness, I can't see the background colour much, but it doesn't matter really since the effect is achieved and the scene is in relative darkness anyway. On my screen I see little difference between her skin and the background, but I like that.

i like it ^_^ it is quite dark but that gives it a good atmosphere imo. the red hair fades into the black so making that a tiny bit lighter might help give a nice effect.

the eyes and lips stand out wonderfully with the slight glimmer in the darkness.

eek, thats not too good. I wanted the background to be darker than her skin, but not so they blend. And no, the orb isnt transparent, it's reflective and glows slightly, but in the way of some things that shed only enough light that you can see them glowing, but they dont illuminate.

Well, then my only criticism would be that the orb doesn't look convincingly reflective... as for the light, remember even things that don't shed light at all shed colour (this is known as colour bleeding). But this is not relevant to this picture, if the orb is totally reflective. Anyway, yes... I'm being a nitpicking fool, but I have a tendency of taking "Please feel free to give me any comments about the picture that might improve it in some way" literally. My advice would be to have another look at the orb, and rather put the glow behind the orb and leave out the sharp white line around it. You don't have access to Poser or the like do you? No chance of downloading any kind of 3d software? The nice thing with that is complex materials can be simulated and then used as reference. If you want I can render a pic for you, but you might be able to get a picture off the internet with a reflective orb.

A fitting expression too, as Xull'rae does adore shiny things. The atomosphere is fantastic. No background required. I feel like I'm in the underdark just by how dark it is.

Hmm, I think you pulled off the background being darker than her skin. It has that certain colour about it that it brings her closer to the viewer. I like the position of her hands and how they carry the orb as well. The focal point for me though would be the jewellery at her forehead. Very nice colouring and and metalic shine about it.
